Failed. I tried 3 times at least.

It's looking for ham.sys (original)
I've tried to select the new driver which I put on a floppy, but it just directs me to C: where I initially downloaded the new files to.. If I click to accept the one on C:, i'm returned to Have Disk. It will only accept the original installation disk I got with the modem.
Can I use Device Manager and select Update Driver and install the new INF file.

I think ADSL is on it's way now.. i've had enough of this

When you unzipped the file is there a sys file in the download?
These modem are made by so many vendor and found the drivers that you have on your cd.Is this a name brand pc like dell.compaq..ect
DriverVer=03/03/2000,3.22.0.0
PCI\VEN_1813&DEV_4000&SUBSYS_1033144F&REV_02
From what I see this is the most updated driver on the net,the one that you have. I would install the drivers that came with this modem and work from there.Sorry for all the work but it is hard to find what is needed when not knowing the modem that is installed. Load the drivers that came with the modem and make a dial up connection. Then we can work from there.

Yes.. there are 4 files that I downloaded... IntelH51.sys, IntelH51.cat, IntelH51.inf & migrate.dll.

The IntelH51.sys didn't show up when I navigated to it.

It's not a brand PC. It was built privately.

I've reinstalled the drivers that came with the modem.

Did you have any problem with this modem before the OS upgrade? Post another modem log please to see if the modem is reset to it's default setting.

No problems with Modem until I clean installed Win2K.

Please tell me which parts of the log you would like me to paste here in future as this is rather long if it's not all needed.

Add W2 to extra setting to see if we can get the modem to show the true connect speed and not the port speed.
http://modemsite.com/56k/initmagic.asp

Also check the country setting. If still having problem try this in extra setting, may have to reboot after putting in string.
W2+MS=V34,1

I tried putting in W2 in the extra settings, but saw no change in the log. I'm looking at the 115200, but that figure appears at various places in the log.

I'm about to put in the W2+MS=V34,1

But, where is the country setting.. I can't seem to find it?

1st EDIT
Reading back, I also noticed that you mentioned 'untick connect at this speed' I don't see where that is either.

2nd EDIT
OK..had to reconnect and the log is the same after I put the extra setting W2+MS=V34,1

I can paste the log if you wish to check it.

3rd EDIT
I just d/l a file at ave. 7.81KB .. 6.6MB in 11 minutes.. never before at that speed. just have to test the upload now.

4th EDIT
Just tried an upload.
managed 425KB ..froze in 4 minutes.

Country setting would be right below were you put the modem string.
Start -> Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options*. Options are displayed with Dialing Rules tab; Click the Modems tab; highlight the modem, then click the Properties button. Click the Advanced tab on modem properties.

Change the string to this note the ; in the string.
+MS=V34,1,300,33,600;W2
Please post a modem log with the string being used.

Also would like to see from hyperterminal.
+GMM?
+MS=?

United Kingdon is already selected.

I pasted the new String in.

Tried Hyperterminal ..this now disconnects.
Tried dialing ..this now fails with: Error 692 Hardware failure in Modem.

Have put back in the W2+MS=V34,1 String and it's connecting again.

Try again to get the info from hyperterminal.Make sure you are not connected to the web when doing so.
+GMM?
+MS=?

Also would like to see the last modem log.
Also have you upgraded 2000 since the update to this OS. That would be updates from windows update. I think the problem you are having here starts from the 2000 update to the PC. The mother board might need a bios update for this OS. The modem is old and has limited support and no more driver update being made. Have you updated Internet Explore?
How much RAM memory do you have on this PC?

Neither of the above produce any result.

Yes I have updated W2K and IE since installing the OS.

Note the change in the log with the Recv: <cr><lf>CONNECT 33600<cr><lf> Showing connetion of 33600.
How has the connection been at this speed?

In device manager are you showing any ? or ! to any device. Are you showing any kind of network card. Still working on the unknown problem.Might also check what programs you have running in the background.
When using hyperteminal connect to the com port the modem is on.
http://www.eicon.com/support/helpweb/diva/hyperterminal.asp

This is a good program to control what is running on startup.
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

You can check here about the start up app.
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/browse.php?l=2&start=75&end=100

Change the W2 in the modem string to W3
When putting the commands in hyperterminal add AT+GMM? then click enter

Hi Charles

Sorry I've not been back to the forum for 5 days. My 56 modem died eventually, that's been the problem all along.. it was just plain 'knackered'.

I had to arranged for my ADSL connection and was off-line for a few days until it was enabled.

All is well now with the new connection..... but it took a dead modem for me to make the jump!

Thanks very much for your sterling effort in trying tp help me sort the old one out... I can't remember a time when I received more help than you gave me.

Once again..thanks very much

No problem glad to have help.I think allot of the problems were that the modems what not compatible with the 2000 upgrade. Some times you can work around some of the problems and get them to work.If you ever go back to dial up I would look for a new lucent pci chipset modem. Good support and better driver building. That was about the next step, to make two paper wings <*> and fly it out the window...LOL Take care and enjoy your new OS and the ADSL.
