Singapore | Posted - 5/17/2004 12:56:49 AM Hi,I am encountering some problem trying to use my voice modem to dial to a particular telephone number. But it drops immediately after the 1st ring tone. The modem is a Prolink v.90 1456VE 56k FAX/DATA/VOICE I have ensured that the driver is the correct one. Is there some special settings that i have to perform? I have tried to use a US Robotics 56k Faxmodem, it manages to get thru to the telephone number that i dialed and connected successfully. But i need the voice feature to convey a message over.
Would anybody be able to help? Thanxs! |

Indicates modem was sent dial command with semicolon at end (which keeps modem in command mode); ~5.5 secs later modem sends 'OK' and your software tells modem to hang up.What software are you using to dial out? Is your headset connected directly to modem or to the sound card of PC? Aloha! Richard.

Singapore | Posted - 5/23/2004 3:32:58 AM For this test i am using the phone dialer utility that comes with windows.Actual use would be with an alerting freeware (serversCheck) that can call out to an operator when a condition triggers. This software have the same problem with the phone dialer. No headset is involved here. Is it necessary? |

USA | Posted - 5/23/2004 8:45:37 AM I think you need either (a) a data/fax/voice/speakerphone modem with a headset or equivalent; or(b) different software Phone dialer is designed to do just that - dial a #; it is not designed to do anything beyond (like voice/messaging). A voice modem (that is not also 'speakerphone modem') requires software that supports the voice functions of the modem, including interfacing modem to PC's sound card for voice audio in and out. The software that comes with voice modem may only permit answering machine functionality andn may not support carrying on 2-way conversations or making outgoing calls. The audio quality and levels that you ultimately may get with correct software and setup of voice modem might not be satisfactory. www.modemsite.com/56k/voice.asp Aloha! Richard.
