Hogweed Tl Posts: 2 United Kingdom | Posted - 9/12/2005 3:27:51 AM I'm trying to rebuild an Advent PC for a friend (new disk fitted). I'm a computer engineer, and normally don't have too much trouble... except for !@&%$!!! modems. As you will know, they don't plug and play as so many other devices do nowadays... this one has Conexant SM56-PCI on the main chip, but Windows 2000 SP4 refuses to install any driver I've tried from Conexant. Is there ANY WAY one can identify one of these things and find the driver which works for it? Thanks! |

Are you sure it is a Conexant modem? (SM56 is name Motorola uses for modem). Try modem in a different PCI slot. Aloha! Richard. |
Hogweed Tl Posts: 2 United Kingdom | Posted - 9/16/2005 10:54:57 AM Yup, very good point - I was tired when I posted that! Actually it says "Conexant RS56-PCI", not SM... The Conexant utility returned a few blanks in crucial fields unfortunately. I'll chuck it I think. |
