sweets Tl Posts: 10 USA | Posted - 9/25/2006 2:00:11 PM I typed "hypertrm" in the RUN box followed the prompts & my computer froze before completing the test, what does this mean? This is a PCTel HSP MicroModem 56. The modem drivers installed are correct for this system. |

How far did the application get - in other words, after typing Hypertrm, in the RUN box, what happened? Did you get the initial screen / new connection dialog? How far did you get / when did you get the freeze? When you get the "freeze", can you press CTRL+ALT+DEL and get a response? Aloha! Richard. |
sweets Tl Posts: 10 USA | Posted - 9/26/2006 1:21:29 PM To answer your questions I'm using Windows 98SE. I get as far as clicking on the screen for Port Settings, set it to COM3, then I click the default settings clik OK when I'm immediately taken to the termianl screen where if I'm very quick & type "AT" & press Enter I get the "OK" & then the computer freezes (mouse won't move). If I'm not very quick after I click OK to the default settings, then before I can type "AT" the mouse freezes up. I think I've seen the words "No Dialtone" on that screen when I'm quick but that's as far as I get before it freezes. I make sure my telephone lines are correctly plugged into both the modem as well as the telephone line. The same freeze up occurs if I use the auto dialer on the Communications link. The computer freezes after I dial a number (I usually try the Netzero local phone number) & I think I've seen "No Dialtone" there too. I already removed my ISP setup in the Control Panel |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 9/28/2006 10:16:10 AM (see responses to your other posts) Sounds like conflict or driver problem. First thing to do: Try modem in a different PCI slot. If that doesn't help, you'll ned to find a different (more "compatible") driver for the modem. Aloha! Richard. |
sweets Tl Posts: 10 USA | Posted - 9/28/2006 10:54:16 AM I moved the Device to PCI slot #2 from PCI slot #3. However on the Resources it still says "COM3". Shouldn't that change to COM2 automatically or are they totally different things? |
