pcsorcerer Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 4/18/2004 9:01:02 AM I wonder if anyone ever upgraded a USRobotics external faxmodem 56K with X2 to v.90 ? I looked over USR/3Com's websites, but they don't list any info on this. [I slso read http://modemsite.com/56k/x2-replace.asp ] Thank you for any help :) |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/18/2004 12:04:57 PM I would suggest it is worthwhile - if you are on a line that can get 56k connections - www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-adconversion.asp V.90 is much more reliable/robust than x2, and a diminishing number of ISP access #s support x2 at all.

pcsorcerer Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 4/21/2004 9:31:06 AM Thanks for the help . I am using this modem on WIN98 /XP amd it consistently connects at 33.6k. My ISP stopped X2 support awhile back, but I just could not toss this nice modem. It is orignally for Macs, but it worked just fine on Windows. I checked the web for the modem wizard and appropriate X2 to V.90 upgrade files and only found 'dead links' , but thanks for your help and time!!!

DanceMan Tl Posts: 3 Canada | Posted - 5/25/2004 2:08:50 AM I have a x2 that often connects at a faster rate than my V90 and V92 modems. Good ISP, I guess. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/26/2004 1:01:21 AM Danceman - check the throughput with x2 vs throughput with V.90 www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-thru.asp While x2 may report higher rates, it often doesn't report "real" rates...! Aloha! Richard. |
