emartini Tl Posts: 2 | Posted - 1/3/2001 2:20:07 PM My USR oem 2977 modem was connecting at around 36.6k. Then after loading AOL it connects at only 2.4k. I have to put four commas after phone number to get it to connect at all. I took computer to another place to try different phone line and connected to same ISP at 44k. Phone company says line is okay. I have a spliter on line at entrance to house that splits one line into two that has always been there. Nothing has changed on phone line since I was able to connect at 36.6 k or better. If I use my old computer with different modem I connect at 24.4 k or 28.8 which is what it always was. Could installing AOL have changed something with modem drivers or what? As I said I could connect on same phone line and modem at better than 36.6 k and then it took a dive to just 2.4 k max. Help!!! :( |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 1/3/2001 7:19:41 PM When you took pc and same modem to "other" place, did you dial the same ISP you're now with (AOL)? If so, it's not the AOL software. You say the splitter has always been there - did you recently acquire another line when slowdown started? Edited by - SARGE on 1/3/01 7:21:30 PM |
emartini Tl Posts: 2 | Posted - 1/4/2001 9:12:38 AM I was just trying out AOL. I actually called my other ISP, Burgoyne from both places and I also took computer back to where I purchased it and they called Burgoyne and it worked. I have had two lines with the spliter for at least ten years and three different computers. |

Quarath Tl Posts: 16 | Posted - 1/16/2001 4:03:16 PM Never install AOL unless you are serious about using only it. Aol changes so many things that if you decide to use something else some inkling of AOL is always getting in the way. AOL 4 you might can recover from but AOL 5.o you might as well reformat adn reinstall to get rid of it. You could start by getting rid of the AOL Dial up adaapter in networking properties. |
