I have a 5686D, v.92 External modem. I use it mainly for gaming purposes (dispite what I tell the wife :) ). Also, is this the best way (ControlCenter) to optimize the modem connect, or would another way be the way to go. I have already configured the COM1 port and DUN for gaming, but was wondering if there was anything else I could do, via the CC program. Thanks for any and all info. System: Dell Dimension 4100, P III - 1.1Ghz, Windows ME, USR 5686D Ext modem. Chuck Copeland |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 9/22/2001 4:57:12 PM I haven't been able to use the CC; I have the original and do understand there's an update. Not sure I'd trust it anyway. In modem properties, unselect compress data. Alot of folks have gaming luck by setting IP packet size (found in Network, in Control panel) to small. And, online gaming seems to perform better if you limit speed to 28.8. |

I also learned thru the program there was an update to the ROM that it installed for me. I guess the best way to limit the speed would be to use the S32=98 init string? Thanks again for the reply.
