jimb11 Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 12/10/2004 9:06:09 AM I have Windows ME with a Lucent Winmodem. The problem I'm having is this: I reformat and reinstall and the modem works for a couple of months and then all of a sudden one day it can't connect (error 666). So then I look in the Device Manager and something is removing the modem from the list. What could cause the modem to disappear like that? Also the modem uses COM 3 and I can't find it anywhere how do I get it back? Edited by - jimb11 on 12/10/2004 10:27:04 AM |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 12/11/2004 9:02:00 AM You don't need to reformat to reinstall modem. Just run the setup.exe from the Lucent/Agere modem driver (8.30). This will re-install the modem. The modem installation creates the COM port that will be used by the modem. Driver: www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin7.asp As to what is removing the modem - that's much more difficult to answer. Put the modem in a different PCI slot. Aloha! Richard. |
