rlief Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 9/23/2000 9:40:13 AM I had to reformat the hard drive on a friend's Proteva which has in internal USR PCI v.90 Winmodem. I successfully reloaded Win 98 but could not get the modem to work. Under Control Panel/System the PCI Communication Device is listed under "Other" with a question mark. When I remove the device and restart Windows, the Add New Hardware wizard finds the "PCI Communcations Device" but can't find the driver. I've tried all floppies and CDs, including Windows ME but with no success. I also downloaded the Winmodem installation disk from 3Com/USR. That gets the Windmodem installed as a modem device, but not the PCI device driver. The files pci.vxd and pcimp.imp are in the Windows\System directory but I'm not sure if those have anything to do with the problem. I may just be missing a parameter or line in my autoexec.bat, config.sys, or system.ini file (they got wiped out when I reformatted the hard drive). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

rlief Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 9/25/2000 7:55:11 PM I downloaded the installation driver disk from USR and successfully installed the Winmodem portion (it shows as a device under System / Modems. But I still get the PCI Communication Device showing up under OTHER DEVICES with a question mark. When I check the properties it shows that the driver has not been installed. I've tried searching for it on the modem installation disk and various CDs. Without the PCI Communication Device properly installed the system does not detect the modem. Any other ideas? I'm totally stumped. Thanks for any help. |
