Five months ago I bought a 56 K modem and I got connections speed of 44.000 bps or 49.333 bps. But, since 10 days ago the connection speed fallen to 28.800 or 32100 bps.
Does anyone know what has happened?

Just wondering. I see this often when you have a 2nd line installed, usually for the modem. Telcos will piggyback both lines on 1 pair, resulting in 28.8. Did you change any settings in modem properties? Has telco changed facilities, calling them "upgrades"?

Have you tried other #'s at your ISP? They could have changed something on their end. This site has good info on using hyperterminal to dial other ISP's to see if your modem and line will support 56k. Something has obviously changed in your case. Might try unplugging all equipment (sets, ans machine, any other modem, etc) and retry.

I doubt that they put him on a non-integrated pair gain sys. That would give him 26400, not good V.34 rates of 28800 to 31200. It may be what V.Richard was describing about SS7 and "random" RBS
