hk Tl Posts: 1 | Posted - 5/15/2000 11:01:22 AM Got it preinstalled from comp. manufact.. 700 mhz Athlon, Azus k7v motherboard. Worked fine, 49k for the first 2 days. Then noticed a buzzing noise on all my telephones lines, wireless & nonwireless. Connection dropped to 28-36K. Pinpointed the buzzing noise coming from the computer/modem(unhooked the telephone line from the modem to wall, buzzing gone). Computer tech will send out new winmodem, recommended an ISA modem if it fails again. Did not think the problem is within the computer, but with modem. Installed a cdrw before getting good connection. All components are working properly. Viking pc card modem on my laptop works excellent at 42k, so not a ISP/telephone connection issue. Any experiences with this sort of problem? Go with ISA or another modem? Hk |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/15/2000 2:07:33 PM Buzzing or hum on phone line usually caused by imbalance on line; USR now uses something other than mechanical relay to go on/off hook on at least some of its modems; this circuit may be more likely to cause problems than a relay.... Personally, I'd go with a Lucent-based Win Modem over the USR.... PCI vs ISA has no effect on whether the modem puts a hum on the line or not. Aloha, |
