Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 6/9/2001 11:11:00 AM I have a US Robotics 56k Voice INT modem, it was flashed and V.90 driver installed. Under Modem Properties/Diagnostics it shows Command AT16-V.90 Peak Speed 45333. Is there a way to increase this to maximum legal speed? Thanks, Jerry |

For example, I can get up to 50 with IBM, but things tend to crawl along. If I force a max speed of 38-42, the flow is smoother and actually faster. Higher connects can bog things down, as data has to be resent or gets bottled up. Like a herd of cattle trying to run through a gate. 56k isn't like broadband; we need to get past the psychological speedometer - faster isn't always better. |

However when I checked the band width of my connection at a couple of different sites, they both stated it was 53333. That prompted my question. If the band width is actually there, would forcing it still cause the problems that you mentioned? |

In a perfect world, we would all connect at 53 and hold it for hours; it doesn't work that way. If anyone knows of a way to force a higher speed than 45 on the modem, without changing ISP's or moving, please tell me. We could put it in a book and retire early |
