I downloaded the latest version of Control Center from the USR site and it worked with my USR V.92 External *finally*! Not sure why it was having problems before. But, anyway, I was able to update the modem firmware to 5.3.8 as opposed to the shipping 5.2.9. I think those numbers are accurate. As always, be careful when updating firmware, and if your modem works fine now, I guess you don't need this. I did it for the heck of it. lol.

One more note, (at least this happened to me) the Control Center will download two files. One *might* be called 00568603_v5_3_8.dmf which is did not work (it said it was not for my modem) for my V.92 EXT modem. The one that is for the modem was pretty much hidden from me and I had to go and select it manually. The one you want *might* be under C:\program files\u.s. robotics\controlcenter\568603\ and called 00568604_v5_3_8.dmf.

Just a little thing I wanted to share. =)

Could you send me this file?
I can't get the USR control center
to work due to a firewall.

I'm extremly sorry, but I had Control Center download an update to itself and it seemed to have deleted my firmware file!!!!!! I SHOULD have backed it up!!!!!

Could you temporarely disable the firewall or go to a friends house just to get the update? Well, if you find a way to get it, I would very much appreciate it if you sent me the firmware file to dusthazard@yahoo.com so could archive it!

Good luck. If I DO find a place to get it, I'll send it but I don't think that will be happening...

Click...

The 5686-03 shipped as V.90 and is what I have.

the 5686D is the 5686-04 (D being the 4th letter)

So it now makes sense why you found 2 dmf files
and why only the 5686-04 worked for you.
This given, I need the 5686-03

sometimes I wonder about my ignorance

I'll send you that zipped including the "just in case" version 5.2.9. I'm not sure if you can go back, tho.
