I'm now stuck with it.Desperately I took from my old computer,a 28.8 sportster, popped it in and was on the net in 20secs.I asked why and was told it was a hardware model.I asked for a modem like that and got a 3COM/USR 56K Fax PCI.I cleaned out the old popped in the new.It will dial out and connect with aol but I get stuck there. The issues appear to be:Aol dosen't support COM5 modems. The set up program for aol changes the modem to com4 standard. It can't find the installed modem.Win95 doesn't have a com5 port. When the modem is set up, the computer will aknowledge it,but hasn't set up another com.port for it.Is changing the registry com ports required.Should the generic inf file be replaced.Hyperterminal gives the ok after install then when the ipc connection software is used to dial up,it say's another program is using the telephony devise, Can I change the init string to comunicate with the isp Thanks |

propitman Tl Posts: 2 Canada | Posted - 11/22/2001 8:17:35 PM Hi again. I took the plunge into the registry as per the dell bulliten, GULP. I changed the portname from Com5 to Com3. It wouldn't except Com2.Now the modem resources show Com3 ,but the port itself Com3, changed to Com5.The modem won't comunicate now. Can I change the port itself back to Com3 and without causing the modem to change back too?.Also I had AOL on the phone today and we reconfigured aol and internet exployer. It didn't help so that's when I did the above. What's the trick to link the modem to the port. Thanks |
