Saw someone else post positive results using a RFI filter from Radio Shack, #43-150 for $11, with their 5610A. So I picked that up and now the 10-16 second stalls every 10-15 minutes are gone as well as the frequent, random disconnects due to "unable to retrain". Actually, since adding the filter, ATI6 has yet to show a single retrain, while before I could get 6 or 7 within the first minute sometimes.

So while connectivity is stable, throughput is still a bit shy of my old OEM USR 56k PCI WinModem (#2975) by about 1-2MB/hr (currently ~18MB/hr, ATI6 showed 50666 for both modems). This coupled with the lack of WinME support, uncertainty over v.92 support, and that it has been discontinued makes me wonder if I still shouldn't just return the modem and pick up a Zoom 3025 for the same price. I'm looking at the Zoom as the "5610B" is not yet out (?) and my 30 days is up next week.

Mindspring doesn't support v.92 and I'll probably jump later to XP rather than sooner to ME, so am I just creating more work for a likely unnoticeable benefit?

Did Radio Shack or the product explain exactly what that filter does? If you have the "inside" service agreement with your telco, a tech will give you all you need, for free. All they do is filter out any radio heard on line. If it's there, you should hear it while talking. If the Shack filters do anything else, let me know, please.
