haltec Tl Posts: 7 USA | Posted - 1/17/2002 12:16:35 PM I purchased a Courier V-everything that was supposed to be flashed to V90.. Invoking ATI7 reports the options as: HST,V32bis,Terbo,VFC,V34+ The seller insists it's still a V90 modem and I think it cannot possibly be with that report.. Any confirmations???? Appreciate !! Aloha - haltec@iceweb.net |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/17/2002 12:32:40 PM It certainly doesn't have V.90 firmware in it. What speed is reported with the i7? The Courier requires an x2-enable key and x2/V.90 firmware to do x2 and/or V.90; You can load older V.34 firmware back to the Courier, but it will still be enabled - requiring another flash of x2/V.90 firmware; however, if the Courier was never enabled for x2, the x2/V.90 flash will take, but you won't be able to do x2/V.90. I guess the acid test would be to flash it (make sure to use the flash matching your modem's clock speed) and see what happens... Aloha! |
haltec Tl Posts: 7 USA | Posted - 1/17/2002 1:56:21 PM Appreciate!! ATI7 reports 20.16mHz and I have already |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/19/2002 2:55:31 PM It's really hard to 'kill' a Courier with a bad flash as it has the BOOT-> ... mode. So, I'd say it's safe. Just make sure the sdl you have is for correct speed, and country. Aloha! |
haltec Tl Posts: 7 USA | Posted - 1/20/2002 10:27:36 AM Greetings: I ran SDL20 /C=2 /B=115200 and got no errors or crashes.. Thought I was home free until I invoked ati7 again to find the report same as before: V34+ NO X2 or V90.. Researched further to read that this modem requires an "X2 KEY" to flash to X2 first, thence another flash to V90.. USR says the "key" is no longer supported.. Ugh.. What to do now.. What is the "key"?? Appreciate!! Aloha! |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/20/2002 3:13:15 PM If they won't sell you the key - you are pretty stuck at V.34. There was a Russian site that had hacked Courier code, I'm not sure if it's still there - or if it would work. (This is a different site than the Russian SMF flasher site for Sportsters.) Aloha! Richard. |

v.Andrey Tl Posts: 3 Russia | Posted - 2/27/2002 12:01:54 PM If you want to upgrade you Courier V.Evr for some features like a Voice capabilities, v.90, and other, try to download last firmware: www.usrmodem.ru/files/avc2112x20.zip - for 20Mhz Courier |
procerus Tl Posts: 26 United Kingdom | Posted - 3/4/2002 12:33:25 PM Nice site, Andrey! If only the Babelfish translations didn't end just as each page gets *really* interesting! Additionally I would love to have an English translation of the text documents that come with those firmware upgrades and some of the other documentation on your site (like the Courier FAQ). Thanks for pointing them out! I'm off to learn Russian now... |
charles Tl Posts: 5879 USA | Posted - 3/5/2002 2:10:00 AM I have not use this but might give it a try. |
procerus Tl Posts: 26 United Kingdom | Posted - 3/5/2002 11:04:42 AM Thanks for that, Charles. The "URL mode" works pretty well and doesn't truncate the text. |
