jack schifff Tl Posts: 2 USA | Posted - 2/4/2002 7:33:25 AM I have a Sportster internal 56K voice modem(V.90) and use aol as my isp. I want to set the port speed higher than the 115000 bps that aol allows on the setup screen. Can anyone tell me how to increase this port speed so i can set it to 230000bps. Note I was able to do this with a registry change for the modem but aol doesn't use the windows software for the modem setup. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/4/2002 9:43:11 AM I don't know the answer with AOL, but, in most cases, changing port speed to 230kbps will not increase overall speed. What speed to you connect at with AOL? With V.90/V.42 compression, the maximum instantaneous throughput will be about 4 times your connect speed (with highly compressable data); however, this is rarely achieved. In practice, sustained throughput with compression rarely exceeds 2x - and a 115.2k port speed isn't a limiting factor with even a "perfect" V.90 connection. Aloha! Richard. |
