This is a modem made by USR for another company to use in their equipment. Example: USR makes a PCI hardware modem called the "Condor", and Micron used it in some of their computers.

This also means that most of the support responsibility goes to the mfr. that puts the modem in their equipment.

However, USR does post drivers for many of their OEM modems.

OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer

If you have a DEll,Compaq...ect PC with a installed modem they support the modem with drivers or help with problem.
They might have a USR modem or a GVC modem but you need to use there drivers for these modems.

If you bought a modem at retail with USR packaging, it should be a 'retail' model.

OEM modems can go through several middlemen including retailers:

USR may make the modem, then sell it to a 2nd party that resells it (possibly as part of a system) to an end user, or to others in the distribution chain before it gets to end user. = OEM

USR may license a manufacturer to make the modem, and that 2nd party may sell it to others who sell it to others, etc. = OEM

Too often, sellers of 'USR' modems do not disclose that it is USR-OEM for which support and warranty are totally different. An OEM reseller might box the modem with packaging that calls it a USR; but, in that case, you shouldn't have "real" USR packaging with warranty info, etc.

What kind of warranty is on your box? What kind of docs came with your modem?

Aloha! Richard.
