I have an older Dell Dimension 300 with PII 300Mhz, Win95 that came with an OEM/USR Voice modem Model-1749. Shortly after I got that computer the V.90 standard was available so I flashed the modem and have been connecting at 48000-49333 consistently ever since. Last April I bought a Dell Dimension 8100 with P4 1.5Ghz, WinME that came with a very similar V.90 OEM/USR Voice modem Model-3298. It connects much slower at 26-31 on the same phone cord and same MSN phone #. I have run your Hawaiian Throughput tests several times on each computer. The older Dell plays the song flawlessly but the newer Dell skips and has long delays. I have spent dozens of hours with Dell tech support trying various settings and they even replaced the modem with a new one of same model #. Dell would not give me a different modem even if I paid extra for it and I think their Tech Support has very limited modem knowledge. Now Dell wants me to reformat the Hard drive and reinstall WinME. Does anyone have any suggestions.

You've got 3 possibles - new pc, Win ME and different modem. Every modem performs differently even on the same line. I went through this before with a USR. Old connected great, new didn't. Kept exchanging and no help. Kept the old and bought the below modem, although it was $120 back then. This may prove your best solution.
