BobMonty Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 3/4/2002 6:26:15 PM I recently bought a 3CP5699A to send faxes from my computer. Unfortunately, it works fine with some fax machines but not others. The speed just keeps dropping until it says "failed to train" I've tried it with Microsoft Fax, BP Phone Tools (came with modem) and Winfax. Does the same with each program. Any ideas? Bob |

Aloha! Richard. |
BobMonty Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 3/6/2002 4:31:58 PM Thanks for the reply Richard. Unfortunately I don't have another modem to try but I'll pester some friends and borrow one. I will also try plugging directly to the demarc. Never heard of that before Bob |
Troubled_user Tl Posts: 263 USA | Posted - 3/6/2002 5:49:03 PM I've bought the same winmodem, and it DOESN'T send faxes to most fax machines, the tech support said so. If i were you, return it ASAP |
BobMonty Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 3/6/2002 7:28:17 PM That is interesting, particularly as it is sold as a FaxModem. I even paid extra for the USR name. Might have made a little boo boo. |
Troubled_user Tl Posts: 263 USA | Posted - 3/7/2002 5:27:28 PM More specifically, according to the janitor, uh, I mean tech support rep, the modem will only connect with V17 faxing. This is a less supported standard that usually is incorporated into computer modems, NOT fax machines Nowadays, I wouldn't buy a USR modem. IF I were you, use a cheaper winmodem, such as a lucent winmodem. I have 6 of them and I've used them everywhere from New York to California (on vacation) and it has never been a hassle |
BobMonty Tl Posts: 4 Canada | Posted - 3/7/2002 7:22:36 PM I always wanted a paperweight that I could plug a telephone cord into. |
