Hi, Please help me

I need conect one pc to a Rs232 port from one inverter(asc protocol) for remote diagnostic, I have a specific software and run ok whith one serial cable (the baud rate is 9600bps).

I have Two 56k modens (model 5686 from USrobotics and i want made these conection via analog telephone line, and the problem is:

I have activated the auto answer at the modem conected to the inverter serial port, but when i dial to him, the modem do not answer.

My plan is conect the Pc with the inverter via telephone line and with the hyperterminal test the communication, when OK , then test dialing whith windows dial up an use the specific software for diagnostics.

thanks

If auto-answer is set on modem and it does not answer, the problem may be related to the RS232 control signals:

the modem may require
DTR and CTS be high before it answers.
Some modems can be set to ignore these control signals.

An RS232 breakout box is handy in situation like this as it lets you see (and change) the RS232 signals.

Aloha! Richard.
