Have installed new USR 5610b v92 with self contained controller. Was told it would work much better than my ZOOM.(having trouble getting updated drivers for this also to install) Have XP Home Edition in a VPR MAtrix 1620 from Best Buy.
Seems when you try to install new drivers it picks up the ones that came with XP and wont get the ones as directed to. I currently have a copy of newest drivers in my "recieved files folder".
How can I force either to pick up the updated drivers?

For a hardware controller modem - the driver only defines modem commands, responses, etc. - It will have NO effect on connectivity or performance -
In order to effect any change on how modem actually performs, the firmware would need to be changed.
New/updated firmware may or may not improve the performance - it has a chance of making it worse; and, with USR, firmware upgrades are generally irreversible - that is to say, if you update the firmware and things are worse, you won't be able to go back.

Before you do anything - including playing with the drivers or updating the firmware, I suggest:
check your post-call diagnostics -

Check for more than 1 a/d conversion - if you have more than 1 you'll never get a 56k connect with any modem unless your telephone line conditions change

What speed are you connecting at with the USR? What did you get with the Zoom? What model Zoom did you have?

And, also, suggest check your throughput.
