rpaun Tl Posts: 2 Spain | Posted - 6/17/2004 2:26:09 PM I have a Dell Laptop SmartPC 250N with Conexant Ambit Soft Modem MDC. It will only connect at a speed of 2400bps!!! If I connect it to my desktop as a network it will connect at a more normal speed of 50kbps. However this is of no use if I am away from my desktop PC. Anyway, I would expect a normal functioning modem from my laptop!! I am sure I have the latest driver. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong? (No noise on line) Many thanks |

Make sure you have modem set to correct country; make sure to use a telephone line cord that has only 2 wires connected through the cable to the connectors... Aloha! Richard. |
rpaun Tl Posts: 2 Spain | Posted - 6/19/2004 6:45:23 AM Thanks Richard for your reply. Have checked the modem cable and it is a two wire system. Have received reply from Dell who suuggest there might be a settings/protocol mismatch by ISP, a laptop softmodem is not as robust a a softmodem in a PC (!!!??), and I might have line noise. Two of these would be the same for my PC, which is functioning with no problem. Anyway, I will keep investigating!! Rpaun |
