Sending and Recieveing data at the same time can be quite a speed up.

1. do our modems run at Full Duplex?

2. Is it possible to configure two ports for our modems,..one that sends and one that recieves?

Sorry for the delay in posting but got tied up a bit.

Im using a conexant soft56k modem on winXP home.
However,..if it requires a different type of medoem to do this then I would certainly switch it.

This whole question was triggered by someone recently saying that we could increase our throughput if the in and out of the modem was separate ports,..which suggests that you can be sending and recieving simultaneously. If it can be done then that would be a considerable increase in throughput, but I dont know if that is actually possible.

All modern modems are full duplex - send and receive can occur simultaneously.

You can't use 2 modems in the manner you describe, but 2 modems (with 2 phone lines) can be used together to double both send and receive speeds - this is called multi-linking.

Aloha! Richard.

Multi-linking sounds very interesting. Is there any information on how to do this and how much speed gain one might expect from doing it??

wow didint knwo it was that easy,..I just went into windows help and it came up with a complete how to guide. A bit of surfing on the net revealed more details about how it works. Thanks for the tip im gonna check that out

So IF I do a LAN for my home systems and place the multiple modems in the "server", hooked to multiple phone lines,..it should traffic control the lines as each person logs in. When one user is logged in then they will recieve 3x50k as the connect speed,..degrading down to 50k when all users are logged in.

Can you use more than one Modem or is two the limit?? (its probably the limit because of the server im hooked to ??)
