I have an older Conexant/Rockwell Soft56k modem I have installed in a Dell 4600 using Win XP SP2. I believe the modem is voice capable. Conexant chip is R6793-11. XP recognizes it as "SoftV90 Voice Speakerphone Modem". It has 2 telephone jacks and a Mic port and a Line port. I would like to be able to dial out and talk on the phone from my PC. (I am on a cable modem for internet) I have a PC headset to hook into the modem ports. I can hook the PC headset directly to the modem ports but it does not receive any sound. I can talk out. I can dial out and the other person can hear me but I cannot hear them. Nothing comes back through the headset or through the PC speakers. I have downloaded the Universal HSF Driver from the Doctor. I am not sure it loads. When I double click the setup nothing happens. Thanks for any help you can offer. Mike

Look on the modem board for the FCCID number and post.Double click the speaker icon in the system tray,go to option, properties.Make sure you have line in checked under playback and might check other options as well.Make sure to put back on play back, then cheak volume controls. What software are you using for this?

Thanks for your reply. The line in was alreadt checked. I also checked everything else under Playback. I am using the Windows Dialer. I don't know what an FCCID number is. Can you tell me what I am looking for?

There is a sticky label over an FCC label that says "warranty void if removed" it has numbers 7.27.00 and also 19954. Is that what you are asking for?

Windows dialer is just that a dialer, you will need some telephony software to use it right. Can not use those numbers, need the FCCID# or do you know the make and model of the modem.

What telephony software do you suggest? The modem came as part of an old computer I bought in 2000. From the invoice - "Conexant/Rockwell 56k v.90 pci voice fax modem". I don't have any better description or model number.

Conexant/Rockwell 56k v.90 pci voice fax modem will not do to find out who made this modem or model,if there is no warranty to void just pull back the label.I would think if we could find the full drivers it would have some with it.

Some times you can find the make and model with the VEN number.

You can find out what drivers you have installed by using the ati3 in hypertermanel.
