I am using a modem to alert me of an error condition in a control system using an allen bradley plc.

When an error occurs, the plc uses a modem to dial my cell phone.

The PLC has the ability to enter AT commands once I answer the cell phone. I would like to make the modem emit a number of beeps that would indicate which error has occurred.

This seems simple but I don't know how to do it. Can this be done?

You could command the modem to dial additional touch-tones instead of "beep" - then you'd just have to count how many tones you hear.

The modem needs to stay in command mode after dialing the number for this to happen - terminate phone # with semi-colon:
ATD9999999;
the modem will return OK and wait for add'l AT commands -
ATD1111
would send 4 tones, etc.

Aloha! Richard.
