Hi,

I have rebuilt my laptop with a clean install of XP pro. However, the modem (an Agere Toshiba Software Modem)will not dial out. When 'queried'in device manager, it says:

"The port that the modem is attached cannot be opened. This may be the result of a hardware conflict. Check the device manager to verify all devices are functional"

There are no hardware conflicts in 'Device Manager', and I get the same message if I try to change the 'Com' settings.

I have installed the latest XP driver from the Toshiba site, but still get the message!

Can anyone help...please.

Thanks in advance

You cannot use 'Add new Hardware' to isntall the modem.
What you describe is consistent with an attempt to install the modem improperly.

Uninstall. Run the
agrsmdel.exe
modem removal utility that's included with the driver files;
Then, run the setup.exe for the modem driver.
