2McAbre Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 12/30/2004 6:18:00 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not getting any help from my ISP on this so perhaps someone here can provide some input. My ISP supports v.90 The problem is that my v.92 modem goes through a series of 3 "handshakes" (perhaps not the correct term, the eee, ooo, eee, ooo sound) prior to connecting with the 3rd one. I've tried using the USR connection manager to try various settings to disable various modes etc. and have not been able to get this to stop, its time consuming and annoying. Driver and inf file are fine, problem seems to be ISP related. I can dial in perfectly on other providers lines. When I contact the ISP they (of course) blame my line condition, which is simply not the case. I have tried numerous different access numbers from the ISP (and yes I suppose I should consider changing, but have been with the same one for many years and this problem just seemed to have started when XO took over concentric) Any clues or ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

2McAbre Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 1/1/2005 4:16:29 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() Aloha! Sorry for not being more detailed in my original post. And to think I moderate at other sites for XP related issues Post call Diagnostics[b] Chars sent 853714 Retrains Requested 0 Data Compression NONE No Connection Modulation Bell 103 OK [b]Operating System Model Modem Connect Speed (typical) The problem is not only related to the multiple handskakes each time I connect, but also one of constantly falling off the network. I am wondering if perhaps XP is not sharing a resource with something else which may be affecting this. I'll start looking into that possibility. And honestly I am not an "Newbie" and apologize for not thinking out the original post better. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/2/2005 8:38:49 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The post-call diagnostics aren't "valid" - the first part starts off OK ("Chars sent 853714 Chars Received 2537390)" but then everything is zero with status of 'no connection' - perhaps you could try grabbing that again after a call. The last, y11, with valid data would confirm whether you have a line that's not capable of 56k speeds - Aloha! Richard. |

As you can tell Modems are not my forte ![]() Still think I just need to bite the bullet and subscdribe to a new ISP, been with the current since it was concentric.net back in '96, now owned by xo.com who dont seem to value customer service very much. Just hate the idea of having to redirect my website/ email addresses, etc. U.S. Robotics V.92 Fax Win Int Link Diagnostics... 2McAbre Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 1/3/2005 7:57:21 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() Aloha once again Robert! Success! 1st… the S32=128 variable knocked my connect speed down to 2.4Kbs [:P}. However when I used the instructions at the "Limiting Connect Speed" page you referred me to and diddled with those variables a bit I found that using… &U10&N0 (tried allot of combos) reduced the multiple handshakes to one! While still connecting me at a "fair" rate of 31.2 Which I think is the best that my ISP can support. I know the modem will connect at higher speeds with other ISP's so… THANK YOU!!! anything I can do for you just let me know! P.S. Sorry about the double post |
