orava Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 2/27/2005 8:05:29 AM Originally posted this in the "other" forum--my apologies. It will not let me close that thread, so will have to leave it for now. My problem is when I tried to flash my modem, it got thru the erasure, etc. & up through modem reset. Then it went to looking for modem, came up with "no handshake" & there it sits. Anyway I can restore it to life? Thanks. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 3/1/2005 9:45:34 AM Couriers have a way to be forced into a BOOT prompt - sorry but I forget the process right now & can't seem to find it. You should be able to flash the modem using the appropriate sdl...exe file from a DOS box. Aloha! Richard. |
orava Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 3/2/2005 7:15:21 PM Tx for the info. Found that bootstrap loader is done by dip switches. My problem now is what do I send to the modem? I originally tried (for flash) SDL25.EXE, & that got me to where I am. Hyper terminal says "4 Meg loader installed. Firmware download required." I did the sdl from the Command prompt. Tx. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 3/3/2005 10:54:58 PM I think you need to transfer, using Xmodem protocol, the firmware binary when you are at the BOOT-> prompt (using the terminal program). (The sdl.exe is not the binary - it's a loader and the binary combined.) Aloha! Richard. |
orava Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 3/7/2005 7:58:09 AM I must be doing something wrong. I don't get the Boot prompt with anything I've tried. I set dips 1,5,8, & 10 off & tried sending SV.XMD w/ X Protocol, but the modem comes up with the same result, the only difference being that when ATI7 is sent, it responds "Firmware Corrupt--Firmware Download Required". Additionally, I'm sorry that I don't understand your last message about the SDL.EXE being only the loader &/or loader & binary. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 3/9/2005 1:28:13 AM What is the model # for your Courier? If you have the newer version - www.modemsite.com/56k/newcourier.asp - you can't use the sdl20 or sdl25 firmware - theswe are for the older Couriers - and these are the ones, I think, that will show a BOOT prompt. The newer Courier has more memory and different processor and would require firmware made for it. Should be available from USR. Aloha! Richard. |
orava Tl Posts: 6 USA | Posted - 3/9/2005 3:23:12 PM Model # 1224. Supervisor's date 7=xx=97. The modem is a 25 MHz unit. The USR Website is very confusing. I can get to the "4 Meg Loader Resident Firmware download required." The modem will accept no commands of any sort--just comes up with this. I really appreciate your patience & help, but I fear my machine is terminal. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 3/11/2005 5:12:06 AM Please bear with me, too as it's been a long time since I've dealt with this - I'll try and do some more research and post again when I have something more for you. I don't think the modem is terminal.... Aloha! Richard. |
