I just got a MultiTech 5634ZPX PCI modem. I've been able to get online, but there's a Global Wizard I need to use to set the country I'm in; and a Flash Wizard that will help download the latest updates. The Global Wizard can't find my modem. The Flash Wizard says "ERROR: No HEX files available for update." I've uninstalled my prior USR modem. Control Panel's Modem section says that the modem is working properly. If I "Query", I get lots of command messages, but it also says "Opening the modem device failed with error 00000020." I was pretty juiced about getting this modem, but I want to make sure everything's optimal. So far it tests out at the same speed as the USR, even on a V92 AOL phone line; and the connection speed's no better either. I saw Pi's reference to MultiTech in a previous topic. I've sent questions to MultiTech's support team. Anyone here know anything I could try? Thanks!

Global Wizard can be run from the CD or installed to the hard drive. try running it from the HD
Flash Wizard needs access to the Internet to check for updates . If running a firewall give it access to Internet.

Country code can be set in XP under Dialing Properties. This does not change the modems default setting .
I saw something on the MultiTech web site or modems users guide that the default setting for the "Global " modem was Euro/NAM (#52)
Using the Global Wizard or the proper AT commands will change the modems default, write it to Non Volatile memory.

Firmware's are downloadable from MultiTech support and can be installed manually.

If you did not get the Users Guide for the modem download it. This is all covered in the Guide.

"Opening the modem device failed with error 00000020." not sure, try reinstalling the modem in a different PCI slot.
