v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 8/2/2005 9:32:21 AM What kind of modem is the replacement modem? That is - what chipset? www.modemsite.com/56k/chipset.asp How are you trying to INSTALL the modem? Aloha! Richard. |
mnunns Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 8/2/2005 1:58:11 PM thanks for the reply. I did use the modem disc to install the modem. device driver thru query modem gets every thing working correctly.I've unistalled the mdemdrivers & smartlink(original modem) from the computer. I have 2 modem icons in control panel, neither of which will allow me to access setup..The new modem, from emachines is an HIROINC PCI Soft V.92 .I've tried removing the modem after removing from the device man'gr & add/removeing the drivers .still nothing. modem works fine except can't setup call waiting. thanks Mel |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 8/3/2005 1:38:23 PM If you double-click on 'Phone & Modem Options' in control panel and do not get a window, something is wrong with your Windows installation. If you do get a Window when you click on that, you'll need to explain further. Windows XP doesn't have 'Modem' icon/listing in Control Panel, it's 'Phone & Modem Options'. Aloha! Richard. |
mnunns Tl Posts: 4 USA | Posted - 8/7/2005 5:59:42 PM Hi Richard, since i can't copy & send the image of my control panel I've taken screen shots with my digital camera. I have the phone/modem icon, PLUS 2 more icons. One says modem settings and the other says v.92. If I click on either one of the last 2 icons i get the message not installed properly. "You should uninstall the modem drivers (using ccontrol panel->add/remove programs ), restart and install it again." Direct quotes. I've tried this more times than I care to admit. Thanks, Mel |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 8/8/2005 10:08:53 PM The only Control Panel icon that's included with Windows is 'Phone & Modem Options' - the others you mention are added by particular modem vendor/drivers. The icons you have there may not be appropriate for the modem you now have - to see if the modem is installed correctly, you should go to Control Panel->System->Device Manager -> Modems. Right-click listed modem to get modem properties (Which will be the same dialog you get if you click Phone & Modem Options / Modems tab.) Aloha! Richard. |
