I've been down the path of unistalling, & system restore. Also checked "system, hardware, device manager, Modem, etc. Nothing works to correctyhis problem. HELP.

What kind of modem is the replacement modem?
That is - what chipset?
www.modemsite.com/56k/chipset.asp

How are you trying to INSTALL the modem?
Most modems cannot be installed using Windows' Add New Hardware Wizard - they must be installed using the correct setup/install program designed for the particular modem you are installing.
The party selling you the modem should also include the installation instructions and software to get the modem installed.

Aloha! Richard.

If you double-click on 'Phone & Modem Options' in control panel and do not get a window, something is wrong with your Windows installation.
If you do get a Window when you click on that, you'll need to explain further.
Windows XP doesn't have 'Modem' icon/listing in Control Panel, it's 'Phone & Modem Options'.

Aloha! Richard.

Hi Richard, since i can't copy & send the image of my control panel I've taken screen shots with my digital camera. I have the phone/modem icon, PLUS 2 more icons. One says modem settings and the other says v.92. If I click on either one of the last 2 icons i get the message not installed properly. "You should uninstall the modem drivers (using ccontrol panel->add/remove programs ), restart and install it again." Direct quotes. I've tried this more times than I care to admit. Thanks, Mel

The only Control Panel icon that's included with Windows is 'Phone & Modem Options' - the others you mention are added by particular modem vendor/drivers. The icons you have there may not be appropriate for the modem you now have -
to see if the modem is installed correctly, you should go to Control Panel->System->Device Manager -> Modems.
Right-click listed modem to get modem properties (Which will be the same dialog you get if you click Phone & Modem Options / Modems tab.)

Aloha! Richard.
