Hi! I just purchased this modem for my Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop because lightning fried my internal modem. However,no matter what I do Windows XP will not install the driver. I know everything is hooked up correctly and I even went to the Amigo site and got the latest driver, burned it on to cd,and put it on the laptop, but it still wouldn't recognize it! I took all the drivers and software for my old modem off the computer, but do you think there is a chance that since I haven't removed the modem itself that it could somehow be causing a conflict with the new one?
I looked in my device manager and it has pci modem listed with a question mark by it and whenever it says found new hardware it says pci modem so I'm thinking this could be the problem, but I don't know how to take my laptop apart and I'm scared to attempt it So I'm wondering if there is anyway to disable it completely to get rid of the conflict or if someone has any other ideas. Please help! Thanks!

Carly

How do you have the modem connected to the laptop?

An ACF modem will operate without a driver (so long as you use non-TAPI modem program - like Hyperterminal, and so long as the modem is connected via a serial (COM) port)
If the modem doesn't work when Hyperterminal is set to connect directly to the COM port it is connected to, either the COM port/laptop is defective or the modem is defective.
