Marvin S Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 8/17/2005 7:39:17 PM I have a three year old Agere winmodem which has worked well until 2 weeks ago. Now it will not go online at least 50% of the time. Netzero says it is dialing, but the dial tone is still audible on my phone (normally is not when online). The program sometimes will report no dial tone error after some time. Trying to send a fax also failed. When it does connect, everything seems to work just fine, usually connects at 48-50k. Is this a modem problem or software problem? Please help. Marvin S |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 8/18/2005 10:05:51 AM Try connecting modem directly to your phone line demarc www.modemsite.com/56k/demarc.asp or if that is not possible, with all other devices removed from line. If modem works 100% of time, problem likely to be some other phone device connected to your line. If problem does not go away, problem is likely to be the modem - you could re-seat modem; try it in different PCI slot; check/replace line cord - make sure it is a 2-wire cord - Aloha! Richard. |
