I have an old USR Courier external v.Everything modem that has not been updated yet, according to its "ATI7" file.
Is the USR file for flashing the rom (usrxmd.zip from USR website) free now or will it ask me to pay after unzipping?

Or should I use the Russian download (idsdl304.rar)?

Or is there a newer download that will work better?

Sorry, I don't know the answers to your questions - but if you find out, or experiment & would like to pass on results, please let me/us know.

I *think* that the Russian download would work; and, that it would work even if the USR flash is tried and not enabled.
AFAIK, USR doesn't have a mechanism for you to pay anymore; their flash updated the modem firmware, but without a 'key' you purchased, wouldn't execute any 56k functionality.
