i have a sony viao laptop with cxt ac link modem (not sure which company is that). the weird thing abt this modem is that everytime in try to dial out (i use at& t dialer) it gives me a socket cannot connect error. modem logs show

10-26-2005 23:17:10.470 - TSP(0000): Dropping Call
10-26-2005 23:17:10.470 - Hanging up the modem.
10-26-2005 23:17:10.470 - Hardware hangup by lowering DTR.
10-26-2005 23:17:10.691 - Detected CD dropped from lowering DTR

redialing again goes throug fine. its only on the first dial attempt does it crap out. any ideas whats going on

Try create a connectoid to dial in instead of using at&t dialer.

Conflict is Internet connection settings could cause problem you describe (having some software set to connect using different connection properties/connectoid than other software settings,)
