The stand alone flash program worked. I haven't seen the promised txt file which should tell me how to update the modem driver. The ICN Setup exe tells me that I don't have a V92 capable USR Modem, although ControlCenter identifies the modem coreectly (with V92 update). According to German Telekom my telephone supports ICN. It would be nice if I didn't lose calls when I am surfing. Thank you in anticipation! Mike |

MikeKilk Tl Posts: 4 Germany | Posted - 1/9/2006 2:29:52 AM Hallo Richard Here is the information you wanted. In the meantime I have tried to adjust the download/upload ratio with ControlCenter but after doing this the connection to my provider fails by the password check. A new installation of the driver was then necessary (from USR Support page file DVR_612.zip). I live in a small village and the telephone lines are "not good" here. For example no DSL. v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/9/2006 4:36:03 PM The modem indeed does have V.92 firmware installed; if you have callwaiting and you are not notified of incoming call, it could be the country that the modem is set for (are you using correct European firmware?); Are you using an extra setting (initialization string)? The modem reporting data compression is off - not normal; are, do you have it disabled in modem properties or control center? Recommend to be ON; You could test whether modem will disconnect on call waiting signal by using intialization string of +PCW=1 If you still have trouble, post your modem log here in reply Aloha! MikeKilk Tl Posts: 4 Germany | Posted - 1/10/2006 2:57:48 PM Hi Richard The update files which I used were from a German Support page. I don't know anything about data compression. I didn't change anything! My first problem is that I can't install the ICN program. The installation starts and then breaks off with the error message "No US Robotics 56K V92 Modem gefunden", even though it is correctly recognised by ControlCenter. I haven't been able to get ICN working by me at all! The second is that as soon as I use ControlCenter to change the Modem settings (for example the download/upload ration) my provider connection dies out on checking the passwort. By reinstallation of a driver (in the meantime I have three different ones), I can get connected again. I noticed as a result of the ATI instructions that the Modem was still only working in the V90 mode. I am using a cheap call by call provider. Is it possible that they still don't support V92? Here my Modem Log. I was in internet, came out, changed the Modem settings with ControlCenter and tried to get back in again, which didn't work.
Thank you for your time. Mike |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/12/2006 6:05:01 PM You are indeed doing V.92 as reported in the modemlog (USR modem may show V.90 in the ati11 response even on a V.92 connection); however, in the last modemlog you posted, the 'unrecognized response' indicates that the .inf file (driver for the modem) isn't correct for the modem you have; however, this shouldn't really have an effect in its performance; it could possibly be related to trouble with ICN; Not sure what exactly you can do, however, I might suggest identify the processes for ControlCenter & ICN via task manager and end those tasks; then use regular DUNs and the modem properties (extra settings) to set your extra initialization string to disconnect on call waiting and see if that works www.modemsite.com/56k/v92c.asp and, if it does, but you want more, I think you'll need to try different combination of the USR software/driver. Good luck! Aloha! Richard. |
MikeKilk Tl Posts: 4 Germany | Posted - 1/26/2006 3:17:35 PM Dear Richard, Here's a copy of the EMail correspondence between myself and USR. It was a great pleasure to be able to tell them that the driver was wrong! Thanks! Greetings Mike Kilkenny Dear USR Support Thank you for your help. Everything is working okay now. The problem was that your support site directed me to the wrong driver. After typing my product number in (see attatchment 1) I was linked to the wrong modem page (attatchement 2). As far as I remember this was also the case on the American and UK sites. It cost me about 5 hours to get everything sorted out - so please correct the link for other customers.
