Hi, I have a problem with a Sportster being lost by XP while XP is running, as if the PC was turned on without the modem being on (not the case). I've removed/reinstalled but still have the same problem (I've even tried another modem, admittedly the same type). Has anybody else experienced this? Is there any logging/diagnostic tools that I can use to find the source of the problem?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Is this an external modem?
Have you tried connecting to the modem's COM port using Hyperterminal as described at
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp ?
And, if so, what happens?

Aloha! Richard.

Yes, it's external. I haven't tried hyperterminal as it works 75% of the time.
In addition, there is another modem (same type) attached to another COM port on the same PC which works fine. The drivers are identical but strangely, in the modem properties, one has a power management tab and one doesn't. Would this indicate some difference between the two that could be the problem?

Thanks

The power management may be function of the PC/COM port as opposed to the modem itself.
Suggestions:
Switch the 2 modems to the other COM ports and see if problem stays with the COM port or the modem;
Try different power management settings (ON always would be 1st suggestion);

Aloha! Richard.
