The internal modem on a Compaq Armada 1700 works on a regular phone line, but I can't get a dial tone on our office phone network. You must dial "9" to get an outside line and even after altering the modem's dial settings to allow for this, I can't get a dial tone. Is there some compatability problem between the modem and a digital phone network that needs to be resolved?

If the office phone system doesn't provide a normal dial-tone line to the outlet you're connecting to, you won't be able to connect - you need a jack that's wired to standard phone line.

In some cases, a 2-wire line cord (one that has only 2 wires connected through to each end) may be required to connect to an office system.
Many digital phones have a data port which you can plug into for modem.

Aloha! Richard.
