Hi there,
I have a lucent win modem about 6 years old. I keep losing my internet connection. Sometimes I have no trouble at all and other times I may lose it 3 times in a half hour.

My ISP says it sounds like modem is going bad.

Does this mean I need just a new modem pci card or do I have to send computer to company for a new modem.

I have an ARM laptop computer.

Thank you
Cynthia

It would be unusual for a modem to "go bad" by doing what you describe - more often, a modem that has "gone bad" will not work at all.
You'll need to look at/evaluate or post your diagnostics and follow other procedures to determine the cause of your problem.
Diagnostics - the response to
ati11
issued in Hyperterminal connected directly to modem COM port after you are disconnected - see
www.modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.asp
www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin10.asp

Modem log - disconnect reason
www.modemsite.com/56k/modemlog.asp

Other procedures -
try other ISPs or other access #s; etc.
Check appropriate boxes and see results at
www.modemsite.com/56k/tshoot.asp

Aloha! Richard.
