Greetings from Louisiana;
I have a new HP a1440n running XP. After several days, I get an error code telling me that the modem (PCI-SV92PP) won't let the computer enter standby mode. "The modem driver may need to be updated."
A quick look at the recommended modem sites was, frankly, intimidating. Most of the posted problems/issues with modems seem to relate to speed . I would really appreciate some help with this.
I contacted HP/India late several nights with only temporary help. It seems that a power off or an uninstall/install cycle temporarily "solves" the problem.
Thanks in advance,
ROOKIE

The Geek Squad at Best Buy solved my problem. Quicken was causing the problem as it was defaulted to use the internet in the background. The modem was always "in use" so the computer couldn't enter standby. Once the setting in "internet options" was changed, things wer OK.
Hope this helps,
ROOKIE
