| giltheissen Tl Posts: 88 | Posted - 9/7/2006 6:18:57 PM    I have two homes, one with dsl and the other with dialup and I've been wondering whether there's anything new on the horizon - even the distant horison - for dialup modems. i remember how we waited with breathless anticipation - at least I did - for the V.90 and V.92 standards. But it's now been several years since V.92 was introduced and I haven't heard a peep about anything new or diferent or exciting being developed or even discussed. Is this it? Is this all there is and all there ever will be? Anything up anybody's sleeve? Gil Theissen |

Since the phone network beyond the local loop is digitized at a 64kbps rate, it would be impossible to get more than 64kbps on a dialup circuit. And, since the analog to digital conversion is optimized for voice, it's impossible to achieve a "perfect" conversion in the a/d conversion. Aloha! Richard. |

Many people that were thought to be wise at the time really blew it on technology predictions. To paraphrase the Pres. of Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) - 'I can't see any use for a computer in the home.' Thus DEC didn't get the PC right until the company had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel... ..bh. Ease your voting choices: Find the candidate backed by the Trial Lawyers and vote for the other one. |
