I reinstalled windows xp and lost modem driver (couldnt find disk). The box says it is a 'web excel PCI internal 56kbps fax modem, V.90 & K56flex auto detect' think it is rockwell...anyhow I downloaded and installed a generic conexant driver and this did the job. However, when connected to internet the modem has an ongoing loud static type noise (does through the normal dialing noise etc first). the connection is fine, doesnt drop out or anything (although only runs at 36 to 40kbps). Rang isp and they took me through steps to turn off modem sound which i did to no avail. noise is so loud i cannot stand to be in the same room while connected to the internet! What could be the possible causes? Could a more appropriate driver fix the problem? or is it a physical problem with the modem? or maybe the actual telephone line? The modem has not been used for some time, (over a year) as I went to broadband, and it worked fine before. thankyou for any advice, as my internet searches cannot seem to find this problem to be a common one.

Could you please copy & paste your Modemlog as a reply -
Also suggest -
Also - if problem persists, please identify whether the noise is coming from your computer's sound card speakers or from the modem card itself.
