He has an extension from his main line outside to his garage. The line is a 120' CAT5 line and runs along a chain link fence from the house. He gets dial tone but cannot connect to AOL. The connection trys and trys but then timesout. Yet he will take the same laptop and go back into the house, connect to ANY telephone connection and it works everytime!! Please help, any ideas? Dan |

REGULAR 2-pair phone wire might be better than CAT5 - CAT5 uses very thin twisted pair - and has 3 pairs more than you need for a phone line. Even better than 2-pair inside station wire would be outdoor phone cable as used by phone companies - these ave a ground sheath, and protection against weather. Aloha! Richard. |
