I have a Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop with an LT Win modem. The LT driver is 5.34. I use to be able to connect at 46,000 something maybe even a little higher. Now i can only connect at 9600 bps. Using the same phone cord, and plugging it into a desktop computer, i can always connect at 49,000 -50,600 on the desktop, proving the line. I recently bought a used 3500 for parts, but discovered didn't have a modem in it, i used the mother board from it, and stuck in my old modem, however it was still connecting at 9600 bps. I did some command checks...and the external memory checked failed, does the Lt Win modem have external memory?. I have a high noise level 6000+ with command ATi11 after a connection at 9600. I check s37 & s38, they are set to auto. Would you say the modem is bad? or is there a init problem?

5.34 is very old driver. Suggest updated to 8.30

If you have any extra settings (user init string) remove them.

If you still have trouble, post your modemlog.

Post-call diagnostics - noise level is meaningless.
