I have a lucent win modem that ive used in an hp mx70 for 5 years. I recently made a computer on my own and was planning on using the modem from my old computer for this new one, it says it connects at 44KBps but the modem is sending about 5 times more information that its receiving. the new motherboard is an asus a7n8x-x and drivers for the modem are 8.28.0.0 yet in the old computer the modem seems to work properly. I basicly cant do anything on the new computer because it receives little to know information. Any ideas on how to fix this or any extra information i need to put up please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike Kleckner

What version of Windows are you using?
You may not have the connectoid set up properly -

I tried the duns, and that didn't work I'M still having the same problem. When I go to properties > networking the drop down menu only has two options PPP.windows 95/98/NT/2000, internet and slip. Unix connection. Could this be the problem because there is no setting for windows XP or is this irrelevant. Also only TCP/IP & QoS packet scheduler are checked.

Thanks again for all our help

OK - for Windows XP the connectoid is different and there is no 'logon to network' as in Win95/98 connectoids....

You might try and identify what is transmitting data -
CTRL+ALT+DEL -> Task Manager. Processes tab. A 'clean' system without extra/unnecessary things running will have under 30 processes running. Google/search engine can be used to identify processes; A better/easier way to see what's running is 'Windows Process Explorer' which was bought out by Microsoft, and is still offered for free:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx
This utility has built in link to Google/identify the processes, and also has a graph of I/O (traffic in and out) and mouse-over on the I/O identifies what process is involved.

Aloha! Richard.
