My 5686D has given up the ghost and I need to replace it. The only external modem I could find locally was a Creative Blaster V.92, but it's only connecting at 26K compared to the USR's 36K-38K.

It looks like several incarnations of it are available; 5686D, 5686E, 5686F. Any recommendations on which would be best? I live out in the country and have a fairly noise line.

Thanks

JS

I would consider possibility of getting and old, used 18## V.90 Sportster modem if available for next to nothing on EBay. In my opinion, the older USR modems were made much better than the newer ones.
Not sure if any revision of the 5686 is better than the others, but would probably go for the F unless I could find specific credible info that suggests otherwise.

Aloha! Richard.
