normxxx Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 6/12/2007 4:22:12 PM I have a Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem. It apparently is running v.42bis. I would love to know how I could find out if can use the v.44 protocol and/or how I can install/activate it. |

Your modem supports it (assuming you have appropriate driver), but, what about the ISP/modem you are calling? Normally, by default, modem will attempt to use the highest/best standard automatically. You can check to see whether V.44 is active and enabled in your modem by issuing the command If the first digit response to the above command is The second digit response to above command controls behavior of modem: if it is 1, the modem will disconnect if V.44 is not negotiated when making a connection. If it is 0 (default), the connection will proceed even if V.44 is not negotiated. You can change either of the parameters with the command Aloha! Richard. Aloha! Richard. |

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 6/14/2007 9:16:53 PM In most cases, if the ISP supports V.92, they will also support V.44, although there's no guarantee. Basically, if you have V.44 enabled on your end and you don't get a V.44 connection, it's pretty safe bet that the ISP doesn't support it. You can make test calls with Hyperterminal to other ISPs that you don't subscribe to and see if you get a V.44 connect - see Aloha! Richard. |
normxxx Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 6/16/2007 9:26:14 AM Thank you! Thank you! I was apparently using an old telephone line/number originally set up for v.90 and never converted to support v.44. Speeds now regularly top 100kbits when surfing. Of course, 'download' speeds are not noticably greater (since most are quite compressed), but I am about to switch to DSL. Thanks again. normxxx |
