At this point I would remove the modem and reinstall. I would also remove any other modem drivers on this pc and modem. I would also disable com2 in the device manager.

Note page 11

Note page 6 for install. Install drivers before the modem.

You have TAPI-compliant software running on the machine that is telling the modem to answer -

Problem is not the modem - it's software (or a SERVICE) you are running.

The modem's S0 tells the MODEM not to answer a call, but something has the port open, the modem sends that software or service RING, and it tells the modem, via TAPI to answer....

Check your running processes in task manager, your startup settings, and services that run. If you are running the MS Fax service change its settings....

Aloha! Richard.

Thanks for all your suggestions.I have searched for all programmes running and the only possibility is AOL7.Incidentally, ModemChk cannot find my modem, which is on COM3.

Modemchk can't find modem because it is in use (another process has the port open).
(It is answering because it is in use).

It is more likely it is in use by a process than an application - task manager - processes -
and it is likely this is a process that runs at start-up (a service). Check the services that are running from Control Panel->Administrative Tools (you must be logged on with adminsitrative privleges) -> Services.

Aloha! Richard.

Might click ctrl, alt, delete and look for programs that might use the modem and end task one at a time.End task one at a time, then call the line to see if the modem is taking the call.
