Well, boys....she's a no sound again. I pulled out the Modem and stuck in a TrendNet PCIV92I which I bought for $11 with free shipping. I understand it's the same one Gateway uses. Works like a charm and with higher speed!
I think the Agere is buggy.

The File Name:BVRP.zip would be the voice software.Also note the date of the drivers.Sometimes when you buy a modem there will be updated drivers on the vender site do to the modem was sent out before they were put on the cd that came with the modem.
The drivers on the site are
DriverVer=08/04/2003, 2.1.57.75
This modem has the Intel(R) 537EP chipset.

You indicate the Driver is dated 8/4/2003 but the TrendNet site shows 8/4/2004. That may explain why when I tried to load it I got a message that there was no newer version. Windows Update had a Driver file which showed a November, 2003 date and it updated. The documentation is pretty sketchy and I think the site may be wrong. ?

The best way to find out the real date and version of a driver is to download it,then open the inf file in notepad,check the version there.The date on the site most likely is the date it was posted on the site.Windows update has the same thing.Be careful on the drivers on windows update,some of the drivers are to fix certain problems.
The drivers have a built in modem on hold app,any other will not,the drivers here on Intel are just that only the drivers.Intel just makes the chipset not the modem.The generic drivers on the intel site show DriverVer=04/09/2004, 2.46.62.0

Some modem are repackage and sold with other name than the vendor that made it,you can look on the modem board for the FCCID number,it will tell who made the modem.
